Heaven Hell - Mersin

Paradise Collapse Cave is located in the district of Hasanlik, Narlıkuyu Town. It is a large pit formed by the collapse of the ceiling with chemical erosion caused by an underground creek. There is a 260 meter long cave at the bottom of the pit. Heaven Collapse Cave; It is also important in terms of faith tourism because of the Church of the Virgin Mary. Cehennem Çukuru Narlıkuyu Town is located next to the Heaven Collapse in Hasanaliler District. It is a large pit of 130 meters deep formed by the collapse of the ceiling with chemical erosion caused by an underground creek. Virgin Mary Church A church was built right at the mouth of the cave, which is a polytheistic worship place, in the Paradise Collapse. It is understood from the four lines of inscription on the entrance door of the church that this church was built by a religious person named Paulus on behalf of the Virgin Mary. The building did not need a roof due to the rock extension on it, which protects the church sufficiently. However, the apse to the east of the church and the two adjacent side rooms are covered by a dome. In the 12th century AD, the dome of the apse and its inner walls are decorated with frescoes. This fresco, which is worn in such an inexplicable manner as to what its subject is, actually shows Jesus and his apostles. There are small arched windows on the north and south walls of the building. The church is dated to the 6th century at the earliest in the 5th century AD at the same time as the basilica to return from the temple, which is located outside in history. Until when the building was used as a church could not be determined.

Cennet Çöküğü Mağarası Narlıkuyu Kasabası, Hasanaliler Mahallesinde yer almaktadır. Bir yer altı deresinin oluşturduğu kimyasal erozyonla, tavanın çökmesi sonucu meydana gelmiş büyük bir çukurdur. Çukurun tabanında 260 metre uzunluğunda bir mağara vardır. Cennet Çöküğü Mağarası; içinde yer alan Meryem Ana Kilisesi nedeniyle inanç turizmi açısından da önem taşımaktadır. Cehennem Çukuru Narlıkuyu Kasabası, Hasanaliler Mahallesinde Cennet Çöküğü ile yan yana bulunmaktadır. Bir yer altı deresinin oluşturduğu kimyasal erozyonla, tavanın çökmesi sonucu meydana gelmiş 130 metre derinliğinde büyük bir çukurdur. Meryem Ana Kilisesi Cennet Çöküğünün içerisinde, çok tanrılı dönem tapınma yeri olan mağaranın tam ağzında bir kilise inşa edilmiştir. Kilisenin giriş kapısı üzerindeki dört satırlık yazıttan, bu kilisenin Paulus adında dindar bir şahıs tarafından Meryem Ana adına yaptırılmış olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Kiliseyi yeterince koruyan üzerindeki kaya uzantısından dolayı yapının çatıya gereksinimi olmamıştır. Bununla birlikte, kilisenin doğusundaki apsis ile buna bitişik iki yan oda birer kubbe ile örtülmüştür. M.S. 12. yüzyılda apsisin kubbesi ve iç duvarları freskler ile süslenmiştir. Bugün konusunun ne olduğu açıkça anlaşılamayacak derecede yıpranmış olan bu fresk, aslında İsa’yı ve yanında havarilerini göstermektedir. Yapının kuzey ve güney duvarlarında birer sıra kemerli küçük pencere vardır. Kilise, tarih olarak dışarıda bulunan tapınaktan dönme bazilika ile aynı dönemde yani en geç M.S. 5. yüzyılda en erken 6. yüzyıla tarihlenmektedir. Yapının kilise olarak ne zamana kadar kullanıldığı saptanamamıştır.
