Magarsus Ancient City

Magarsus Ancient City is 49 km from Adana. 4 km from Karataş District. It is located at the west of Dort Direkli location. In the inscriptions, coins and other official documents from the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods, the city's name is always mentioned as Mallos. The ancient writer tells Strabon that the city was founded by Mopsos and Amphilokhos, who came to the region after the Trojan War. Then, Strabon, who wrote that Amphilokhos returned to Argos, said that Amphilokhos came back to Mallos after a while, as a result of the power struggle between them and Mopsos, they both died and were buried in two distant places in the city. The temple, which is dedicated to Athena Magarsia in the city, is considered one of the most important divination centers in the Eastern Mediterranean throughout the Hellenistic period.
