Alahan Monastery

During the spread of Christianity in Cappadocia and Likonya (Konya), the fear of following those who accepted this new religion and being killed by those who did not believe, Hz. He forced the believers to worship in the cave rock hollows in mountainous regions. St. Together with Paul and one of the pioneers of Christianity who lived in Tarsus, Barnabas made adventurous journeys to Konya-Cappadocia and Antalya-Antakya to spread Christianity. Here are the memories of these two Christian Saints everywhere they stayed during their travels. Alahan Monastery is one of them.

Complex, estimated to have been built in 440-442; It consists of the Western Church, the Monastery, the Eastern Church, the monk chambers carved into the rocks and the surrounding tombs. Church buildings have common architectural features with the Hagia Sophia Museum. A master stone carving is seen in its decoration. The first church is divided into three naves with two series of columns with corinthian capitals. The scarf and side stitches of the door, which passes from the narthex to the main room, are decorated with reliefs.
